Resort Description

The main features of this popular circuit are convenience and value. The lift system still features quite a few drags but new chairs are added all the time and everything links nicely. Last year, they added 5 new chairlifts including the one outside the Hotel Capanna which replaced the long tow. The lift company are keen on moving carpet lifts for beginners. There is plenty of skiing both above and below the tree line and the scope would not disgrace a much bigger resort. Piste maintenance is excellent. The lift company do a particularly good job, combing the pistes and making snow when necessary. The link to Artesina has revolutionized the appeal of the area and the ski pass is very good value. On the Artesina side, the skiing is more challenging whereas Prato Nevoso is easier for beginners and early intermediates. Prato Nevoso is an excellent choice for beginners. There's minimal walking, easy runs both at village level and at altitude, and a caring ski school. Progression is great which means beginners can be doing quite long blue runs before the end of the week.

Accommodation Description

Lovely hotel with excellent facilities. Great location at the top of the village. The hotel Galassia is a 3 star with lots of space and good public facilities including a swimming pool. It has an excellent location for skiers, right on the slopes. To the left is a red run with a tow but even beginners have doorstep skiing. A new moving-carpet lift feeds the nursery slope to the right, which then continues into a blue, right down to the village (about 200m). It's quiet at night. There are just apartments and a few odd shops at the top of the village. For entertainment outside the local area of the hotel, guests need to walk to the main village, about 20 minutes down and 30 minutes back. This hotel has a mini bus which can be used to transport guests down into town during the day.

Once seen as little more than an industrial city, Turin is now undergoing extensive urban regeneration. Situated on the mighty River Po in the far northwest of Italy, and surrounded by stunning alpine scenery, Turin offers visitors a feast of baroque architecture, ornate Art Nouveau cafes, and museum collections covering everything from Egyptology to contemporary art. In 2006 it is expecting a surge in tourist numbers, as it is hosting the Winter Olympic Games.

For years Turin was synonymous with car giant FIAT, which was founded here in 1899 - however the citys origins go back much further. Julius Caesars Quadrilatero Romano (Roman Quarter) can still be seen and is now abuzz with trendy restaurants. By the early Middle Ages the powerful Savoy dynasty had taken control - leaving a legacy of lavish palaces. After unification, Turin was the first capital of Italy, an honour it held for just four years.

The symbol of the city is the Mole Antonelliana, an eye-catching dome, while its most famous relic is the Holy Shroud, thought by some to be the cloth that wrapped Christs body after the crucifixion. It still attracts thousands of pilgrims. Other visitors come to shop under the citys elegant porticoes, or try some of the local gastronomic specialities such as Lavazza coffee, Gianduja (hazelnut chocolate) and Vermouth.
